Wednesday the forecasters got it right. Cold, windy, and sunny. 50 degrees, 30mph winds, and all-day rays. We tried to walk and bike several times but could only do it in small spurts. Last night Joe, Mark, me, Pam, and Dennis headed over to the Jai Alai to try our luck on the horses. The guys pool their money and somehow come up with 24 different bets (10 cents each) on sets of four. I'm not sure of the correct terminology - I just pick horses based on their names. I'm happy to announce that the guys did pretty well last night. They won $89 on one race, $29 on another, and $30 on another. Their winnings paid for their beers, their original antes, and several dollars left over for another visit.
Today was freezing! Things we saw in the park today: men trying to thaw out their outside hoses, frozen rain catch basins, a very few people walking around the park in winter coats; lots with gloves and scarves (me), but mostly people getting in their vehicles and leaving the park. We're all getting pretty sick of the weather. The horses next to the park had on blankets and leg warmers. The orange growers on the news seemed optimistic about their crop; the blueberry growers weren't happy.
Tonight is supposed to be the last deep freeze for the next week. We're all anxiously awaiting the forecasted 70s on Saturday and 80s by Tuesday.
